Evidence for Bound and Free Water Species in the Hydration Shell of an Aqueous Micelle
نویسندگان
چکیده
Our atomistic molecular dynamics simulations reveal the existence of bound and free water molecules in the hydration layer of an aqueous micelle. The bound water molecules can be either singly or doubly hydrogen bonded to the polar head group on the surface of the micelle. The ratio of bound to free water is found to be approximately equal to 9:1 at 300 K. email:[email protected] email:[email protected] 1

Specific Ion Binding at Phospholipid Membrane Surfaces.
Metal cations are ubiquitous components in biological environments and play an important role in regulating cellular functions and membrane properties. By applying metadynamics simulations, we have performed systematic free energy calculations of Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+), and Mg(2+) bound to phospholipid membrane surfaces for the first time. The free energy landscapes unveil specific binding behavio...
متن کاملNew Insights into the Dynamics of Zwitterionic Micelles and Their Hydration Waters by Gigahertz-to-Terahertz Dielectric Spectroscopy.
Gigahertz-to-terahertz spectroscopy of macromolecules in aqueous environments provides an important approach for identifying their global and transient molecular structures, as well as directly assessing hydrogen-bonding. We report dielectric properties of zwitterionic dodecylphosphocholine (DPC) micelles in aqueous solutions over a wide frequency range, from 50 MHz to 1.12 THz. The dielectric ...
متن کاملModeling of the hydration shell of Adenine
The molecular geometry of complex of adenine with 8 water molecules was calculated with Hartree-Fock (HF). The standard 6-31G(d) basis set has been employed. The existence of C-H…O Hydrogen bonds between the water molecules and the hydrophobic part of nucleobase is stablished. We optimized structures and computed interaction energies of all complexes of adenine with water molecules step by step...
متن کاملHydration of alkylammonium salt micelles--influence of bromide and chloride counterions.
The micellization process of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC) and bromide (DTAB) was studied. Nuclear magnetic resonance method was used. The 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra were taken at higher and lower concentrations than the critical micelle concentrations (CMC) of the compounds studied. Chemical shifts were analysed. The studies performed were prompted by earlier calorimetric measuremen...
متن کاملIn Vitro Cytotoxic Activity and Binding Properties of Curcumin in the Presence of β-Casein Micelle Nanoparticles
Curcumin (CUR) is the active curcuminoid with many physiological, biochemical, and pharmacological properties. Solubility and stability of CUR is the limiting factors for realizing its therapeutic potential. Bovine β-casein is an abundant milk protein that is highly amphiphilic and self-assembles into stable micellar nanoparticles in aqueous solution. β-Casein nanoparticle can solubilize CUR mo...
